Austerity Britain: The week the country changed

coinsAs the Government’s benefit cuts kicked in this week, average families will be £891 worse off this year – thanks to the Bedroom Tax and a raft of other tax and benefit changes.  Charities reckon the measures will send the number of homeless spiralling and make the poor even poorer.  Labour’s Ed Balls is seething that the measures are coupled with a tax cut for millionaires.

  1. The benefits system has run out of control, but this was the wrong way to go about dealing with it.
